Welcome to the South Elgin & Countryside
Fire Protection District's website!

The District's mission is to minimize
the impact of life safety or property threats
resulting from fire, emergency medical,
or other hazardous conditions.

These perils may include structure fires,
vehicle accidents, hazardous conditions,
industrial accidents, or specialized rescues.

Our goal is to accomplish this mission
through progressive personnel training,
public education, comprehensive code enforcement, and utilizing our personnel,
vehicles, and equipment at
a constant state of readiness.
Welcome from the Fire Chief

As the  Fire Chief, I would like to welcome you to the website of the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District.  Our Fire District encompasses nearly 24 square miles in Northeastern Kane County and parts of Western DuPage County with a population of over 26,000 residents.  Our Fire District protects life and property as far West as Crawford Rd in Plato Township and as far East as Munger Rd in the Village of Bartlett.  From the Southern border of Silver Glen Rd in South Elgin up to Williamsburg Rd in Elgin Township.  Through a staff of 38 full-time and 12 part-time firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians we responded to approximately 3,756 emergency and service calls in 2022.   Operations are supported by two full-time and one part-time administrative staff.

The Fire District has adopted the moto of “DEDICATED TO SERVICE, COMMITTED TO CARING,” and that is what our membership strives to achieve.  All full-time firefighters are licensed paramedics and State Certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter.  Our Staff is comprised of one (1) Fire Chief , one (1) Assistant Fire Chief
(currently vacant), three (3) Battalion Chiefs, nine (9) Lieutenants, and twenty-four (24) full-time firefighter/paramedics.  Our operations are supplemented by a paid-on-call base of part-time employees.
We staff three fire stations with fourteen personnel each day to readily respond to any emergency within our community.  We protect assembly facilities such as the South Elgin High School, Kenyon Woods Middle School, four elementary schools, Hoffer Plastics, a large industrial complex, and the Randall Rd. retail corridor, all of which attracts tens of thousands of visitors daily.

The South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District is an all-hazard emergency response department.  The all-hazard response includes but is not limited to fires, Emergency Medical Services, Special Operations (Dive, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Swift Water Rescue), and Still Alarms (gas leaks, carbon monoxide, etc.) to name a few.  Our dedication to service also leads us to strive for fire prevention which is why the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District host community events such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes (CPR), fire prevention presentations, grade school safety education classes as well as open houses. Our commitment to caring sets the standard for medical services with compassion and empathy that our paramedics delivery to each event they are requested for.

The South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District strives to improve on our skills and tactics throughout all our response abilities. Our ISO (Insurance Services Office) Class 2 Department is a testament to our commitment to training, standards, and always striving to improve.  Only 1.6% of fire departments across the country are ISO Class 2 and South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District is honored and has worked hard to be one of them. The ISO rating has a direct affect on the home and property insurance of our residents and that is a benefit of maintaining such a low rating.
Please visit all areas of our website, but if there is something you can not find, or a question that cannot be answered with the information contained, I encourage you to e-mail me at wluchsinger@southelginfire.com and I will gladly assist you or put you in contact with someone who can.

Thank you for visiting our website.

“Dedicated to Service, Committed to Caring”
South Elgin Fire District is located in Kane and parts of DuPage Counties, approximately 44 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.
Our District encompasses 24 square miles and serves an estimated population of 26,000. The District provides service to the residents of
South Elgin and also parts of Elgin, Bartlett, Pingree Grove, Campton Hills, and unincorporated St. Charles.

South Elgin Fire District currently operates out of three fire stations located uniformly within the
District to help us serve our residents better!
We moved into our newly built Station 21 in July of 2020. Station 21 houses the administrative offices and is located at 1090 W. Spring Street.
Station 22, built in 2002 is located west of Randall Road at 2055 McDonald Road. The District's
Fire Prevention Bureau Office is located at Station 22.
The District was very excited to have added a third station in April of 2020. Station 23, located at 498-A South Elgin Boulevard, operates and implements a jump company; they utilize either an ambulance or fire engine as immediate need dictates.
